PLUS: The downsides of 'Monk Mode', the wildest story I've ever read, kayaking through Greenland, how to turn your email signature into a marketing powerhouse
Welcome to this week’s issue of ‘The Adventure Capitalist’, a newsletter for the uncommon man.
I’m writing this to you from a plane heading home from Austin Texas. On Thursday evening, Cody and I hosted our first Adventure Capitalist dinner in an underground brewery from the 1800s.

Ideas were shared, connections were made, and fun was had.
The power of bringing people together is undeniable, I’m leaving inspired and recharged. We have more dinners to come, so stay tuned!
Here’s what you can expect in this issue:

Monk Mode vs. Exponential Growth:
A popular meme has taken hold in the hearts and minds of young entrepreneurial men over the last few years.
Go ‘Monk Mode’ they say. Talk to no one. Work. Workout. Focus on yourself and your business and come back a changed man. Shun alcohol, dinners, and fun. Say no to anything that will keep you from reaching your goals.
While I believe working on yourself and your craft is good, the hidden danger of monk mode is mediocrity.
The longer you’ve been building things, the more you realize working hard is table stakes. Everyone is working hard. If you direct your energy towards one thing it will move forward.
But exponential growth never comes from ‘Monk Mode’. It comes from picking up the phone, hopping on a plane, and following the threads of serendipity in your life.
Unless you put yourself on the line and are willing to be completely rejected, you’ll never be able to realize your potential.
Monk mode didn’t get me $200m
Living did. Getting out there, trying stuff in public. Failing miserably.
